Latest on the Hong Kong International Piano Competition 2008

The Quarter Finals have been completed, and the jury has unusually picked 5 pianists (instead of the usual 6) to proceed to the Semi-finals. The Semi-finals is the chamber music round. No elimination takes place here but the marks awarded would be taken into account alongside those of the Finals in deciding the top 5 placings.

The Semi-finalists / Finalists are:

PARK JONG HAI (Korea) performing
BRAHMS Piano Quartet No.1 in G minor, Op.25
MOZART Piano Concerto No.17 in G major, K.453
RACHMANINOV Paganini Rhapsody

LEE JIN SANG (Korea) performing
BRAHMS Piano Quartet No.1 in G minor, Op.25
MOZART Piano Concerto No.17 in G major, K.453
RACHMANINOV Piano Concerto No.2

HELENE TYSMAN (France) performing
SCHUBERT Piano Trio in B flat major
MOZART Piano Concerto No.20 in D minor, K.466
CHOPIN Piano Concerto No.2

MIAO HUANG (China) performing
DVORAK Piano Quintet in A major, Op.81

CHOPIN Piano Concerto No.2

KIM HYE JIN (Korea) performing
DVORAK Piano Quintet in A minor, Op.81
MOZART Piano Concerto No.20 in D minor, K.466
RACHMANINOV Piano Concerto No.2
All chamber music is performed with members of the Endellion Quartet, and concertos are accompanied by the Hong Kong City Chamber Orchestra (augmented) conducted by Christopher Warren-Green.
Three performances of Mozart's K.453, two each of K.466; two performances of Chopin No.2 and Rachmaninov No.2 beckon. Lots of opportunities for comparison here, so let's hope everyone makes their mark in the right way!
