The Mad Scene's NAME THE DIVA contest

Here's a contest devised by The Mad Scene, Singapore's premier opera blog (http://themadscene.athenarts.com/), run by my musicomanic comrade-in-arms Steven Ang.

All great divas have nicknames (Maria Callas is La Divina, Dame Joan Sutherland is La Stupenda, Russell Watson is... ahem, The Voice and Andrea Bocelli is The Eyes etc.) So why not bestow a nickname on Singapore's top (and only) operatic diva, Nancy Yuen? Without her, there would be no Singapore Lyric Opera, no Madama Butterfly, no Tosca, no La Traviata, etc... to grace our stages. This contest is the ideal lead-up for her next role, a portrayal of Mimi in the forthcoming SLO production of La Bohème.
MARIA CALLAS = La Divina

JOAN SUTHERLAND = La Stupenda

NANCY YUEN = La ???

Please submit all proposals, preferably in Italian (no rude ones please), to the comments column, and these will in turn be submitted to The Mad Scene for a final vote. Any takers?

Prize: Erm, nothing very much except the honour and bragging rights of being the "name-giver" for La Nancy. In the meanwhile, The Mad Scene will try and come up with something.
This contest is not sponsored nor supported by the Singapore Lyric Opera. Pity.

I am a fan of Nancy Yuen since I happened to hear her rendition of "I know that my redeemer liveth" (Handel, Messiah) on YouTube yesterday. It's simply wonderful and heart opening like I heard rarely before. And i can't help to repeat this film again and again. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjVwLuLyR9A&list=RDOjVwLuLyR9A )

My very serious compliments to this great artist, who deserved, after my opinion, more attention in europe and america in the past!
I like reading that she 2013 still sang in public. Thank you!
