SEPARATED AT BIRTH? Conductors, Singers and their Lookalikes

Here are more musical lookalikes I've collected through the years. The spotlight is now on conductors and singers.

My personal favourite: Italian conductor Carlo Maria Guilini and his gunslinging spaghetti Western counterpart Clint Eastwood. This one truly makes my day, punk.

I never thought that actor James Mason looked like Herbert von Karajan until I saw North By Northwest where he played the villain. Here he is as Field Marshall Erwin Rommel in The Desert Fox. But guess who was the real Nazi?

Still based in Hollywood, does anyone think that former LA Philharmonic maestro Esa-Pekka Salonen look like Michael J.Fox from those Back to the Future movies?

Still on Finnish conductors and Hollywood, here's one of SSO Principal Guest Conductor Okko Kamu and his martial arts twin Chuck Norris.

Finnish conductors seem to look like everybody. Leif Segerstam, responsible for constructing a sauna in Copenhagen's concert hall, is a dead-ringer for Brahms and Santa Claus. Did we say that Father Christmas lives in Lappland?

Our very own Lan Shui, Music Director of the Singapore Symphony, could have a second career as a double for Chinese actor Daniel Wu.

Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Orchestra maestro Jason Lai could probably run for election in place of PAP Member of Parliament Teo Ser Luck.

Trombonist turned conductor Christian Lindberg is happy to take the place of John Lithgow in the the sit-com Third Rock from the Sun.

Gianluigi Gelmetti, formerly of the Sydney Symphony, as the Old Man of the Sea from the Ernest Hemingway novel.

Who shot DFD? Dallas villain J.R. and Larry Hagman could not possibly be as convincing in Schubert's Winterreise as German baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.

Oh my goodness! Which is the Kiwi diva Kiri Te Kanawa and which is the fitness guru and former main squeeze of Ted Turner, Jane Fonda? We know who to call if the opera Barbarella is finally written!

Finally, Luciano Pavarotti and actor Dom de Luise. Maybe all fat food-loving Italians all look alike.
