The Sydney International Piano Competition of Australia (SIPCA) starts today! Arguably the most prestigious international piano competition in this part of the world takes place from this morning, beginning with Stage I, held at the York Theatre of Seymour Centre.
You can tune in to the competition live at:
http://www.abc.net.au/classic/player/
Helpfully, all the pianists and their repertoire is listed on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's splendid Classic FM website: http://www.abc.net.au/classic/music-listings/
All the details of the 36 competitors participating can be found here:
http://www.abc.net.au/classic/sipca/competitors/
The sessions are as follows:
Stage I: Thursday and Friday (5 and 6 July):
9.30 am, 2.00 pm and 7.15 pm (Thurs only)
Stage II: Saturday and Sunday (7 and 8 July):
9.30 am, 2.00 pm and 7.15 pm (Sat only)
Stage III: Monday and Tuesday (9 and 10 July):
9.30 am, 2.00 pm and 7.15 pm (Mon only)
Just remember, Sydney is two hours ahead of Singapore. So each day's session begins at 7.30 am Singapore time (and the other sessions subsequently at 12 noon and 5.15 pm). Something well worth waking up for!
If you have missed any session of the competition (as I have!), you can still catch the performances in the form of a pod-cast here: http://www.abc.net.au/classic/content/2012/05/01/3492800.htm
