Is there anybody who does not crave for Penang hawker fare? Short of making a trip to Georgetown, there is a fix for our favourite Penang hawker dishes not too far away. It's just as short trip to notorious Geylang, very near to the Aljunied MRT station. Penang Seafood Restaurant is actually a full-on seafood place, which also serves tze char dishes and Penang dishes on the said. Manned by Malaysian chefs, the Penang fare is both authentic in taste and generous in portions. But just do not expect Penang prices!
Come early in the evening to get a parking lot near to the MRT station, and just cross the street, past a bunch of fruit stalls (here's a place for durians as well), and it's an air-conditioned restaurant although al fresco dining is also an option.
We tried the de rigeuer dishes, char kway teow Penang styled (without the black sauce), Hokkien mee (prawn noodles in broth) and rojak, and were not disappointed in the least. Should have ordered the Penang assam laksa as well, but that's for another visit to look forward to.

Char kway teow Penang style, but the see hums (cockles) are tiny. |
Hokkien prawn noodles soup. The prawns are huge and the soup ruddy good. |
| There is an extra crunch to the rojak. |
| Looks like we had a good time! |

| Mural of a Penang kopitiam. |
| Where is this classic Penang corner kopitiam? |
| It's on China Street but not quite! |
Bingo! Here's the kopitiam pictured on the corner of China and King Streets. |
