SUKA MAKAN: NESAT SEAFOOD HOUSE @ PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA

We're with friends after attending the Phare Circus at Nagaworld 2, and are hungry for a bite. This seafood restaurant is a favourite of Monik Hennemann and Kenneth Hamilton's and we eagerly share their anticipation. Nesat Seafood House is located near the Russian Market (Psar Tuol Toum Pong) and is easily accessible by tuk tuk.

Nesat is an informal eating place, very open and friendly. It's speciality is seafood fresh from the seaport of Kampot, and our orders were a test of that. And we were not disappointed. We shared a seafood platter, which had prawns (glorious), crabs, squid, mushroom stems and a little bowl of seafood tom yam in the middle.

Monika's very healthy salad dish.
A burger & fries for Ken!
The glorious seafood platter.
The prawns were really fresh!

No Nesat experience is complete without trying its fresh oysters. The Kampot variety is smaller than the usual oysters served at buffets but no less tasty. It is taken with lemon juice and a healthy serving of fried shallots. The damage: 10 oysters for USD 3, much less than your Newton Circus variety. More importantly, the company of good friends is what makes a meal here extra special an experience.

Dessert: Ice cream & orange chocolate mousse
