FIFA WORLD CUP 2010: 1st Semi-final (6 July 2010)

Arjen Robben celebrates, Uruguay despair

Semi-final:
HOLLAND 3 - URUGUAY 2

The Netherlands were the favourites for this match, and claimed a first World Cup final spot since 1978 in style. They dominated for much of the match, but had to be satisfied with a first half stalemate, with Gio von Bronckhorst's rocket nullified by Diego Forlan's screamer.
Full steam ahead for the second half, with goals from Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben. Robin van Persie may claim an assist to Sneijder's goal by not getting in the way of his deflected shot. If Robben had not been so greedy, there would have been more goals. Uruguay rallied late and got a late consolation, giving the Dutch a tense 2 final minutes. Only if they had played like this for 90 minutes.
Remember: Uruguay should not have come this far. This wouls have been Ghana's semi-final, if not for that rotter Luis Suarez's handball. Fair play to the Dutch. Will they be third time lucky? Rating: 4/5
