3RD HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION: Quarter Finalists named




15 pianists have been advanced to the Second Round (Quarter-Finals) of the 3rd Hong Kong International Piano Competition. They will perform a 70 minute piano recital each, taking place from Saturday to Monday. The top six will then enter the Third Round (Semi-Finals) which includes chamber music with the London Chamber Orchestra group and the Fourth Round (Finals) where they perform a newly-commissioned setpiece by Howard Blake and a concerto with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy.

* Pianists who received a bye into the Second Round having previously won 1st prizes in international piano competitions.

Of interest is the appearance of Hong Kong's Wong Ka Jeng, who has become a celebrity of sorts having had a docu-movie KJ: Life and Music made about his life and struggles in becoming an artist. Expect partisan support from the hometown audience.




The youngest participant, Tsai Min Hao (Taiwan) is only 14 years old.
