Exclusive Pictures from Flute Festival 2012

Thanks to MusicGear Pte. Ltd. which supplied these wonderful photographs, here's a chance to relive the two sparkling evenings of flute music at the Flute Festival 2012 @ YST Conservatory.

The first evening (Saturday, 5 May 2012) opened with a performance of a movement from  Debussy's Trio for flute, viola and harp by the prize-winning ensemble Debussy Trio.

Franz Doppler's Andante & Rondo played by Worapon Kanweerayothin, Cheryl Lim on flutes and pianist Beatrice Lin.

The Malaysian Philharmonic's Hristo Dobrinov played Enesco's Cantabile & Presto with pianist Low Shao Ying. 

The most unusual item from the Opening Concert came from the Malaysian Philharmonic's Sonia Croucher who performed both piccolo and flute with sitarist Kumar Karthigesu and Vick Ramakrishnan on tabla. Their work was an evening raga Sandhya Prahar (At the Heart of Twilight).

The SSO Flute Quartet: Evgueni Brokmiller, Lee Kee Hoi, Roberto Alvarez and Jin Ta performed Eugene Bozza's Trois Pieces.

Winner of the Open Division flute competition, Germany's Johanna Dömötör , performed the finale of Ibert's Flute  Concerto with pianist Low Shao Suan, which opened the second evening (Sunday 6 May 2012).

Japan and China/Singapore united: the quartet of Fumiko Ando, Wang Tong, Midori Miura and Jin Ta with three movements from Yvonne Desportes's Suite Italienne.

Special guest of the Festival was the Vienna Philharmonic's Principal flautist Wolfgang Schulz, who performed works by Herbert Willi (Piece was dedicated to him), C.P.E. Bach and Mozart.

Closing the Festival was Bangkok's Flute Ensemble Siang Nanachart, seven flutes of all sizes, with piano and drums.

The pieces de resistance were the two contrabass flutes, which resemble organ pipes bent into a figure of four.



Hiroshi Matsushima, leader of Siang Nanachart, alternated on flute and piccolo.

What a sight! A stirring end to the festival as the Thai ensemble performed a Thai melody Krao Ram, a medley from Miss Saigon and America from Bernstein's West Side Story.
