6TH CHINA SHANGHAI INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION: 12 Quarter-finalists named


The 12 quarter-finalists of the 6th China Shanghai International Piano Competition have been named. They will each perform a 40-45 minute solo programme on Wednesday and Thursday (7 & 8 November 2012) at the Shanghai Conservatory. Six semifinalists and three finalists will subsequently be chosen. The finals takes place on Sunday 11 November at the Shanghai Concert Hall where the finalists will perform a piano concerto with the orchestra in residence. The winner takes home a bounty of USD 30,000.

Abdiel Vasquez (Mexico)
Michael Noble (USA)

Bruno Vlahek (Croatia)
Henry Kramer (USA)
Jin Wenbin (China)

The quarter-finalists were chosen from a preliminary round of 42 accepted pianists who performed from 3 to 5 November 2012. All in all, 111 pianists applied for the competition.
