The 2013 Cleveland International Piano Competition has concluded and its four winners have been named. They are as follows:
1st Prize: STANISLAV KHRISTENKO (Russia)
2nd Prize: ARSENY TARASEVICH-NIKOLAEV (Russia)
3rd Prize: FRANCOIS DUMONT (France)
4th Prize: JIAYAN SUN (China)
All four performed piano concertos with the Cleveland Orchestra conducted by Stefan Sanderling at the Grand Finals. It is interesting to note that Khristenko was a former finalist in this competition, having garnered 3rd Prize at the 2005 edition. He performed Brahms's Piano Concerto No.1 in the finals. The other concertos performed were Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No.2 (Tarasevich-Nikolaev) and Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No.1 (Dumont and Sun).
It has also been an excellent year for Ukrainian pianists. Khristenko was born in the Ukraine but is now a Russian citizen. In June, the 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition was won by another Ukrainian, Vadym Kholodenko.
