Photographs from YONG SIEW TOH CONSERVATORY 10TH ANNIVERSARY GALA DINNER / Part 2: The Music

The musical segment began with pianist Clarence Lee
in scintillating form for Alfred Grünfeld's Soirées de Vienne.

What would the Conservatory's Gala Dinner be without live music performed by its students? Those who have been regulars at Kent Ridge will know the exceptional standards attained by the youngsters, and here was more of the same. Let me just repeat that every note heard was performed or arranged by YST's students and alumni, and it was a treat.

The audience was appreciative, quiet and respectful throughout, with none of the boorish behaviour at those interminable wedding dinners when the poor string quartet has to play through incessant chatting, eating, drinking and slurping.

Next was a suite of works representing the Four Seasons,
beginning with Vivaldi's Summer with Shi Xiaoxuan as soloist.

Autumn came in the form of an arrangement of Kosma's
Autumn Leaves by Syafiqah 'Adha. Rit Xu is the flute soloist.

Young Ukrainian violinist Oleksandr Korniev
starred in Piazzolla's Invierno Porteno.

Its Springtime with Loh Jun Hong bringing the annual cycle
to a close with Piazzolla's Spring in Buenos Aires.

All the musicians take their bow to much applause.

Syafiqah 'Adha is the first Malay Muslim
graduate from the YST Conservatory,
and possibly the next Iskandar Ismail.
