HERE IS A CONCERT NOT TO BE MISSED!
Gustav Mahler's Eighth Symphony, also known as the Symphony Of A Thousand, will be performed by the Orchestra of the Music Makers conducted by Chan Tze Law on two evenings at Esplanade Concert Hall, 10 & 11 July 2015. That's this evening and tomorrow evening! Limited tickets are still available.
This will be only the second time Mahler's Eighth is performed in Singapore, since the 2004 performances by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (led by Lan Shui) at the Singapore Arts Festival. Here are some photographs taken at the rehearsal on Thursday 9 July. Judging from what was heard, two cracking evenings of great orchestral and choral music are to be expected.
Composer-Conductor Tan Chan Boon, President of the Singapore Mahler Society, led the final pages of the 80-minute long symphony. |
And here are the soloists on stage: Songmi Yang, Deborah Humble, Ariya Sawadivong, Hyon Lee, Dongwon Shin, Warwick Fyfe and Joshua Bloom (from L to R). |
We haven't forgotten Singaporean soprano Janani Sridhar (as Mater Gloriosa) who sings from the organ loft. |
Views of the 200-strong chorus from Singapore and Australia. There would have been more singers if not for the fire safety regulations. |
Translations of the Latin texts are projected on two large screens on stage. |
The children from the Vocal Associates Children's Chorus (youngest member: 6 years old) and offstage brass. |
Chan Tze Law has established himself as a leading Mahler conductor in Singapore. Here he has a discussion with Singapore's most fervent Mahlerite Tan Chan Boon. |
