Its Christmas time, and this is no better time for friends to re-connect, make new acquaintances, enjoy a hearty meal and good music together in the company of comrades and loved ones. Our gracious hosts are the Wangs, whose Bosendorfer grand is in serious need for a workout, and thus welcomes performances of all sorts. And there were musicians among the throng who were more than willing to oblige!
First to perform was Pung Rae Yue
who played two Etudes in A minor, by Rachmaninov & Chopin.
Next was Estelle Goh who offered the slow movement from Beethoven's Les Adieux Sonata and Henselt's most famous etude.
One half of the artistic directors of the Singapore International Piano Festival work on Claus Dieter Ludwig's Variations on Happy Birthday.
Each of the evening's pianists took turns in the primo and secondo parts, as Rae and Yan tackle one variation.
Now its the turn of Estelle and Rae
Jia Hwei & Estelle take the next variation
Coming full circle, Yan joins Jia Hwei for the final variation.
As everyone concurred that Yan and Jia Hwei were the best duo, they had the privilege of playing the entire Variations from the top!
As if to emulate the Vienna Phil, TL and Rae play Johann Strauss Jr's On The Beautiful Blue Danube.
The evening's only singer Julia Wang performs the Mozart aria Bella Fiama
It's a rare luxury and honour to have Lim Yan and Jia Hwei accompany you in a Christmas carol sing-along.
Belles of the Ball: Estelle, Rae and Julia
Have a Merry Holiday Season
and Happy New Year!
