A little history was made, when for the first time, a Yong Siew Toh Conservatory alumna has been admitted to the semi-finals of the prestigious Leeds International Piano Competition. Her name is Khanh Nhi Luong, a former student of Thomas Hecht, and is incidentally also the first ever Vietnamese pianist to have been selected to take part in the Leeds.
Her performance in the Second Round of Henri Dutilleux's Piano Sonata, a rarity if any, was one of lyrical eloquence and digital brilliance. You can watch it here after Beethoven's Sonata Op.90:
Here's wishing Nhi all the best for the semi-finals, and if God willing, the finals as well!
