Another piano recital not to miss, by one of the most interesting and unusually gifted artists of our time, the young American pianist of British-Taiwanese parentage KIT ARMSTRONG. Fondly remembered for performing all 12 Transcendental Etudes of Franz Liszt in Singapore in 2022, he makes a welcome return with a surprise gift: an entire recital devoted to the music of Frenchman Camille Saint-Saens (1835-1921).
Saint-Saens is well known for his Carnival of the Animals for two pianos, the Organ Symphony and various instrumental concertos (for piano, violin and cello), which are regularly heard in concert. A gifted pianist himself, his piano music is virtually unknown. Much of his output for the instrument was written for the salon, but what Belle Epoque charm and virtuosity these underrated pieces are. Saint-Saens is not the Master of the Miniature without good reason.
Kit Armstrong's programme as follows:
Danse Macabre
Menuet et Valse
Mazurka in B minor
Gavotte - Bourree
Valse langoureuse - Valse gaie
Africa
Etude "Les cloches de Las Palmas"
Elegies Op.135 No.5 & Op.160
Fugues, Op.161 No.1 & 6
Feuillet d'album Op.169
