Surely Singapore's oldest flatted factory also has its oldest cafeteria. Such is the fate of Block 115B Commonwealth Drive, which is the annex to Block 115A, known to be Singapore's first flatted factory. Located in the housing estate or satellite town (as they used to be called) of Queenstown, both blocks are unprepossessing and drab buildings which hold a little history of note. In May 1965, these were unveiled as sites for light industries (as opposed to heavy industries in Jurong), located near the public housing estates of Queenstown, where the residences of many a worker are likely to be.
The food court located on the ground floor of Block 115B, now occupied by Food More, is one of our favourite post-work dinner haunts. Its stalls offer a variety of dishes, from economy rice, noodles, simple zhi char dishes, Korean / Japanese / Thai / Sichuan / Indian / Western fare. There is much to choose from and one is unlikely to repeat a dish, except that we do have our favourites.

The best soup outside of Penang. The cooks are from Malaysia, as to be expected! |
One unfortunate aspect of hawker stalls in food courts is the high turnover of stalls. Some of our favourites have come and gone, including one stall selling Japanese-styled mee pok which had a distinct taste not to be found anywhere else. At least the Thai stall, run by true blue Thais, is going strong. A new addition is the fishball noodle / prawn noodle stall which has the best soup to be had outside of Penang.

Only accept Tom Yum soup noodles from genuine Thai chefs. |
 |
| The ubiquitous mango sticky rice. |
 |
A sign of the times: stalls that have been vacated. If truth be told, these stalls were uncompetitive. |
 |
| Part of the Queenstown Heritage precinct. |

| A little bit of history here... |
