If you drive down Alexander Road in the direction of town, you are unlikely to miss a historical looking cottage-like building opposite Ikea. That is the Brewmaster House (erected 1933), once part of the old and now-demolished Archipelago Breweries. This brewery once produced the popular Anchor Beer, which was how Archorpoint shopping centre (located behind) got its name.

Brewmaster House is now occupied by Common Man Coffee Roasters (CMCR) on the ground floor and a Yoga.Movement centre the storey above. The lateness of the hour prevented Janet from getting her coffee fix, but we had dinner instead. CMCR serves Asian, Western and fusion dishes, which we enjoyed. Janet promises to return with the Gouw clan on another day to savour the coffee and another meal.

Here is some history of the building (not the coffee shop) and how a conveyor belt used to transport goods from the brewery to the canning facility and railway line across the road. All this is gone, but I remember that "overhead bridge" for many years before it was dismantled forever.
