Funan Mall is the best place for a quick meal before attending a concert at Victoria Concert Hall / Theatre. I'm back there again at Basement 2 where all the little eating places and food courts are located. In the same row as Qiji, Sing Swee Kee and Xi Men Jie is Hoe Nam Prawn Noodles.
This is the chain that serves both prawn noodles as well as bak kut teh. I decided on the former and was not disappointed. You have the choice of small or large prawns, and I went for the big option. There are even choices of the size of dish, small for 3 prawns and large for 5 prawns. I went for the 3 prawns and they were fresh, and the flesh was firm.
| But they got it right almost immediately. |
The braised noodles were very savoury and best of all was the broth on the side - very umami because of the boiled prawn heads used in the stock. Being complementary of the soup helped, as I had an added bowl served, on the house. The service was excellent and solicitous. Likelihood of coming back: very high. Will try and bak kut teh next.
| Yippee, more soup! |
