Walking along Phnom Penh's Sihanouk Boulevard near the Independence Monument in search for lunch, we stumbled into this humble looking eatery. Little had we known, Gerbie's Salad & Sandwich is a very popular stop for the city's expat community. Soon after we had begun our meal, its upper floor space had been filled to the brim.
The reasons are not hard to fathom. Besides its very friendly service, it serves very substantial salads. One bowl is huge and can easily feed two persons, Throw in a tray of open-faced salmon sandwiches, we were having a feast. We also liked the drinks, for which I downed a full coconut, something I had not done for a long time (Saigon 2014, to be exact). Will certainly come back, the next time in Phnom Penh.
