I decided to forego the lavish spread that is Sunway Hotel's breakfast on a quiet Sunday morning to take a walk around Phnom Penh's most sacred temple - Wat Phnom. This is the temple mound (a phnom) founded by Lady Penh in the 14th century after whom the capital city was named. After the modest climb, I found myself at its Arts & Crafts Centre where I had a very simple bite.
| The cafe was small, simple but pleasant. Nothing fancy but nobody''s complaining. |
The cafe and the arts centre were deserted, and I was the only customer. Ordered a simple ham and cheese sandwich and ice coffee, and had a walk within the centre.
It looks like a small collection of shops but there were simply no staff in sight, just a security guard glued to his handphone. I could have walked away with a couple of Buddha heads or done an Andre Malraux and no one would be wiser, but I resisted that thought. Will be walking to Phnom Penh's old French quarter next.
| Very pleasant premises, but nobody's about. |
