Prokofiev at the piano, painting by Igor Graba.
After a hiatus of almost 15 years, Sergei Prokofiev's Second Piano Concerto finally gets heard in Singapore. There will be two performances of it within the next two weeks! The Singapore premiere of this wonderful concerto was given by the Chinese pianist Xu Zhong, with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra conducted by Choo Hoey, sometime in the mid-1990s.
The two pianists tackling this behemoth are the Russian Nikolai Demidenko and Singaporean Lim Yan. Lim Yan will be the first Singaporean to perform this work in public.
