It's been ages since we last ate at Newton Food Centre. That's largely because we tend to avoid tourist traps, and the large open air food centre at Newton Circus had been in the past notorious for price-gouging. Those "seafood" and "BBQ seafood" stalls are largely culpable, and tourists have been hit with three to four-figure sized bills for ordering big prawns, crabs, lobster and fish dishes.

So we kept a wide berth of these tourist traps and focused on the more usual hawker fare. It's more expensive than most HDB and heartland food centres but one supposes the rental is far higher too. This evening was a drizzly one, and after listening to Shostakovich's Fourth Symphony, the appetite is sufficiently whetted for some favourite Singapore hawker fare. It was not too crowded too.

No visit to Newton Circus is complete without sampling the oyster omelette or Or Luah which we so love. This is never cheap, but at least this Michelin bib-gourmand awardee Heng gave us big juicy oysters, gloriously pictured below. There weren't many pieces but enough to keep us happy.
