It is an ambition of mine to try out all the best chicken rice in Singapore. On this drizzly evening, we made our way to that humongous repository of eateries called Star Vista, and got a table at Boon Tong Kee Happy Nest. Why "Happy Nest"? That certainly ain't for the chickens. I suppose that's meant for the diners, so we'll see about that.
There is both indoor and outdoor dining, the former just being three small tables while the latter is more open and sprawling. We opted to escape the haze and sat indoors. Boon Tong Kee prides itself for Cantonese (as opposed to Hainanese) "Kampong Chicken", which is probably a euphemism for non-forced fed fowl, which explains why the dead chickens piled up near the window looked puny and undernourished.

Then we order a portion of chicken for two. There was barely half a chicken and the slices of meat so well spread out on the serving plate that it gave the illusion of lots of meat. Sorry, there's barely enough for one person! Thank goodness we also ordered sambal kangkong and braised tofu with crab meat, which together with the fragrant rice filled the stomach. The flagrant lack of meat meant we'll be taking our chicken rice loving bellies elsewhere.
